About Trip Tellers

Travel numbers you can check

Trip Tellers is a free website of travel calculators. It answers the practical questions of a trip: what the fuel will cost, how far and how long the drive is, how long the flight takes, and how much to tip.

We build each calculator on named sources, mostly official government data, and list them all on this page. Trip Tellers works in eight languages, needs no sign-up, and is built by its founder, Guy Yavetz, and a small team.

The company

Trip Tellers is owned and operated by GUYA LTD, a private company. GUYA LTD also runs Valmond, an SEO and GEO agency.

Why I started Trip Tellers

I started Trip Tellers in 2024 because I wanted to know what a trip abroad would really cost me, and I couldn't find tools that properly answered my questions: with real detail, with data that's updated regularly, and with numbers that are local to where I was going.

So I started building them, with one rule for every calculator: name the source, show the date, and put the math on the page.

Trip Tellers is still small and independent, which lets us fix things fast. If a number looks wrong to you, write to me. I read every message.

Accuracy

How accurate are the results?

Our results are planning estimates. We test them against real-world references and tell you where they fall short.

Flight times
In August 2026 we rebuilt our flight-time model and calibrated it against 160 real airline schedules. Most estimates land within 10 to 15 minutes of the schedule. Routes that detour around closed airspace can take longer.
Road distances
In an October 2026 check of 16 U.S. routes, our road distances were within 1.2% of Google Maps on 15 of them.
Drive times
Raw route data tends to overestimate how long a long drive takes. On U.S. routes, our gas, driving distance and travel time calculators correct this with a calibration based on real drive times. Elsewhere, we show the route data's own estimate.
Fuel use
EPA ratings come from standardized lab tests. Your real mileage depends on speed, load, weather and how you drive.
What we don't do
We don't use live traffic, and we can't see the price at your local station.

Our standards

How we work

  • Free, and funded by us

Trip Tellers is free to use and needs no account. It's funded by GUYA LTD, and today the site has no ads and no sponsored results. The calculations come only from the data and formulas described on this page.

  • Every number has a named source

You'll find each one in the table above, with how often it updates.

  • Estimates are labeled as estimates

The assumptions sit next to the result, so you can judge it yourself.

  • Local in every language

Each language version uses its own country's prices, currency and units.

  • We say what changed

Fixes and changes to the calculators go into our public changelog.

  • We use AI tools

They help us build a better product and a smoother experience for everyone who uses Trip Tellers for free. The numbers themselves come from the sources on this page.

Our story so far

How Trip Tellers has grown

  1. Guy starts building Trip Tellers.

  2. The first version goes live, with the Gas Travel Calculator and the Driving Distance Calculator.

  3. Fuel prices start updating automatically from the U.S. EIA, and EPA vehicle data is checked every day. Trip Tellers launches in Hebrew, with Israeli fuel prices.

  4. German version.

  5. Three new calculators: Travel Time, Flight Time and Tips. Five more languages: French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Polish, with prices from the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin. German prices now come from Tankerkönig.

  6. Flight-time model rebuilt and calibrated against 160 real airline schedules.

  7. U.S. regional fuel prices, shareable results, route lookup and rush-hour delays. We retire our destination guides to focus on the calculators, and open a public changelog.

For journalists and researchers

Writing about travel costs?

You're welcome to quote any Trip Tellers result with a link. Our data tables name their sources, so you can cite the original data too. Guy can run custom calculations for a story, such as this year's fuel cost for a popular holiday drive compared with last year's, and is available for comment in English and Hebrew.
